We have been very busy this Fall!
Social Studies - We discussed our classroom community and classroom rules. We read The Kissing Hand and How to Be a Bucket Filler. We discussed friendship and how to be a kind friend and classmate. We studied the folk tale - Johnny Appleseed
Math- We went over number recognition of numbers 1-10, AB and AABB Patterns
Sight Words: like, fun, the, I, see, name
Language Arts: Journal writing, individual workbooks and poetry journals. We also have group reading and individual reading
Handwriting: Letters Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee, Ff, Gg
Science: We studied apples and their parts. We held a taste test and graphed our results. We also studied our 5 Senses. We did an experiment using popcorn!
Social Studies: Began our study of Community Helpers. We spoke about Following the Rules in a Community - and how to be a good citizen and respect one another. We studied fire safety and were visited by Lt. Klingner from the NYFD. We studied explorers and Christopher Columbus's journey to America. We discussed the compass rose and directions. We also discussed the difference between the globe and the map. We began our study of our address and phone numbers.
Math: We worked on representing a number with a group of objects. We reviewed shapes : circle, square, triangle, rectangle and introduced new shapes parallogram, rhombus, hexagon
Sight Words: red, yellow, blue, my, and, the
Language Arts: We reviewed our beginning sounds. We worked breaking words into syllables. Continued with our workbooks, poetry and writing journals and individual and group reading.
Handwriting: Letters Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm, Nn, Oo, Pp, Qq and Numbers 0-10
Science: We continued our study of Life Science and looked at the life cycle of a pumpkin. We were able to see this first hand on our field trip to the pumpkin patch! We also learned about Bats. We learned about their lifestyle and what nocturnal means. We also loved reading the story Stellaluna.
Social Studies: We discussed Responsibilities and our role as students, friends and children. We talked about Voting and what it is like to be the President of the United States. We studied Veteran's Day and what our military and armed forces do for us and our country. We also discussed being Thankful. We studied the Pilgrims, Native Americans (specifically the Wampanog Tribe) and the First Thanksgiving. We celebrated school wide with a feast that each class contributed to. We made cranberry sauce and homemade butter.
Math: We worked on graphing and with pattern blocks. We reviewed shapes. We compared sets and discussed greater than and less than. We also practiced sequencing numbers 1-10 and continued writing our numbers correctly.
Language Arts: We reviewed beginning sounds: Rr, Hh. Dd. We worked on upper and lower case letter recognition and matching.
Handwriting: Letter Rr, Ss, Tt, Uu, Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy, Zz
Science: We discussed and explored November weather. We talked about and studied Primary and Secondary Colors.
Journal: We wrote about If I were President I would...
